What is the new world order that China hopes to create? As China might put it, “You had your sphere of influence when you were a rising power. Now we have our sphere,” observed Kori Schake, leading foreign policy expert who has studied the changing hegemonic roles of superpowers.
Schake served on the National Security Council of the George W. Bush administration, the Department of Defense Office of the Secretary and Joint Chiefs of Staff, and on the Policy Planning Staff at the State Department. Currently, she is the deputy Director-General of the International Institute for Strategic Studies and author of numerous books including Safe Passage: The Transition from British to American Hegemony (2017) and co-author of Warriors and Citizens: American Views of Our Military (2016) with Defense Secretary Jim Mattis.
